Day in history

Published by saraehickman under Uncategorized Edit This

Today is a day in history.  Half of the country disagrees with what is happening today.  As Christians if we agree or don’t agree one thing that we can agree on is that we have a big God.  God paints the strokes of our lives.  For those of us who voted for McCain, he could have had Jesus on his ticket and if God wanted Obama to win, guess what.  That is what would have happened.

I just hope that Obama is able to get things done.  I hope that he is able to bring back the fundamentals this country was founded on.  I pray that his eyes are opened wide, as are his ears.  I pray that he humbly takes the wisdom of those that have come before him.  I pray that the people he is surrounding himself with will lower their egos and own agendas to come together for the greater good of this country that we all call home.

Today is something beautiful.  Agree or not.  This is a day that God created.  These two men may be what this country needs.

It is a beautiful thing.

Published by saraehickman under Life Edit This

I go to a very large church. I am a follower of my pastors blogs. Joe’s blog said to check out Brad’s newest idea. So I did. You should as well. It is a heart warming blog. Here it is.

I had to participate. I went on a roll last night. I finished the list! But then we kept going. It is amazing.

Go Check it out!

I would like to give you a sample of what you will find.

949. My husband being able to let his in-laws be themselves.
950. Re-exploring a city you lived in for 8 years through the eyes of new residents.
951. The way your favorite jeans make everything just better.
952. Getting a great deal when it is BOGO time at Payless.
953. Sitting watching TV, and your dog cuddling with you like a baby.
954. Finishing a book and being really sad that it is over.
955. Looking at the photographs of your honeymoon and realize you are even more in love today.
956. Chasing your dreams together.
957. My husband supporting my dreams.

I can’t believe what I heard.

Published by saraehickman under Uncategorized Edit This

Background: I work a job with crazy hours.  I work split shifts, 7am to 9am M-F and various hours depending on what is going on in my clients life

Driving home from work today there was a commercial on the radio station I typically listen to.  I hit 3 on my presets to find hear what is on the Top 40 station.  The morning show is still on and the DJ is talking about Larry Flint and the CEO of Girls Gone Wild.  They were going to congress to ask for a 5 Billion dollar bailout.  Thier argument: with the economy being so bad people are not buying porn.  Adult movie sales are down 20%.

I had to look this up to see if it was true.  It was!  I could not believe what I heard.  Of course the problem is the economy.  Did people ever stop to think that maybe, just maybe people are starting to realize that there are better things out there than watching adult films?  Now, I have nothing against this adult industry.  I am more of the mind frame to each its own.  Sure it is an industry that there are plently of temptations.  But we face all types of temptations everyday.  My problem is with asking for a bailout because the sales are down.

Have these men been under a rock?  Everything the sales are down.  Just today my parents were at a mall and mentioned how many of the stores are having to close.  Obviously sales are down.

So if your sales are down that means that you can go to Congress and ask for a 5 billion dollar bailout.  So, as a business owner myself I can do the same thing.  My sales were down this past holiday season.  No one will find me with my hand out looking for help.  The only help I will seek is that of a hand up.  I will seek the knowledge to fix the problem myself and if I do not want my business to go under I will work harder.  There are people out there that are still buying.  I will find them.

The First Weekend in January

Published by saraehickman under Family Edit This

Well, it is the first weekend of January. In my world that means it is two things 1. The beginning of the end of football season. Very sad. 2. It is also time to take down the tree. Sad. However, it went very well. My husband and I took on the responsibility. Well let me rephrase that. I took on the responsibility and he opted to help.

In November 3/4 ths of my family moved to Ohio. We have combined households and are sharing a lovely 4 bedroom 2 1/2 bath house. Well combining houses also means combining things. After putting Christmas back into the variety of storage containers. I have 1 tree, 3 Rubbermaid tubs, and two fiber optic boxes. My mom on the other hand. 3 trees (2 large and one small), 10 Rubbermaid tubs, 3 boxes and 3 boxes that contain that specific item. Our hallway is lined.

My question is how does this happen? How does she have so much and I have so little. I have 1/3 of what she does. She does not have all the things we have from when we grew up either. Part of me wants as much as she has, but then part of me doesn’t. I think the main culprit here is that the things she has are large. While putting it away we have one tub that is just her new angel for the tree and lights for the largest tree.

I love Christmas and I love that she has so much that while we are living together, I can just enjoy hers.

The year of results - 2009

Published by saraehickman under Life Edit This

It just seems fitting to me that I am starting this new blog on the first day of this New Year.

I have started many things in my life.  This is the year that I am going to make things happen for my family, my business and my life.  Those that know me would probably say something like, oh this won’t last long.   Give it time that will pass.  They would be right - in the past.  This year I have a focus.  This year I have a vision.  This year I have a destination.  This year I will see results.

1.  Top Secret Science will pay all of our bills and bring us out of debt by December 2009.  I expect to have made 45,000 in Top Secret Science by the end of 2009.

2.  My husband and I will have a baby.

3.  Keith (that is my husband) will be the top sales person at Time Warner with monthly commission checks of 1700.00.

4.  I will see results in all that I do.  I am going to be focused this year.  I will not let distractions get in my way.  I have a huge opportunity on my hands and I am not going to let it pass.

5.  On a personal level, I am taking this year and going to take the journey of Looking Great and Feeling Great by taking one key a month from Joyce Meyer’s book “Look Great, Feel Great”.

6.  I am going to be a more devoted Christian.  I am going to read the entire Bible this year.

Looking back, 2008 was our year of follow through.  We did follow through on several things.  Things that did not necessarily work the way that we intended.  Overall, it was a good year.  This one will be even better.
